Measure Mode
Measure road segments using GPS coordinates
Overview
Measure Mode allows you to mark start and end points along the video to calculate road segment distances. Measurements use GPS coordinates with geodesic calculation for accurate results. Segments are saved with full GPS track data.
Entering Measure Mode
To start measuring road segments:
Keyboard
Press M to toggle measure mode
Click
Click the Measure button in the video toolbar
Requirement: Measure mode requires GPS data in your video.
Videos without GPS metadata cannot be measured.
How to Measure
Measuring is a two-step process:
1
Mark Start Point
- Navigate the video to your starting location
- Click "Mark Start" button
- GPS coordinates are captured at this position
- Status changes to "Measuring" with distance = 0
2
Mark End Point & Save
- Play or seek the video to your ending location
- Watch the live distance update as you move
- Click "End & Save" to finalize
- Segment is saved with full GPS track data
Tip: The distance updates in real-time as you play or seek
the video. You can see exactly how long the segment is before saving.
Live Distance Display
While measuring, the toolbar shows real-time distance:
Example display:
Measuring
247.5 mShort distances
Displayed in meters (e.g., 247.5 m)
Long distances
Displayed in kilometers (e.g., 1.25 km)
Distance is calculated using WGS84 geodesic formula for maximum accuracy.
What Gets Saved
Each saved segment includes:
Location Data
- Start GPS coordinates
- End GPS coordinates
- Full GPS track (all points)
Timestamps
- Start video timestamp
- End video timestamp
- Calculated distance
Optional Metadata
- Segment name
- Notes
- Road name and number
- Chainage values (auto-calculated)
Managing Segments
After saving, segments appear in the Segments tab in the bottom panel:
- View on map - Segments display as blue polylines on the map
- Click to edit - Open segment details to edit name, notes, or condition
- Delete - Remove segments you no longer need
Road condition fields (optional):
- Road width
- Road type (asphalt, gravel, concrete, unpaved)
- Surface condition (good, fair, poor, very poor)
- Surface texture (smooth, moderate, rough, very rough)
- Defects with severity and extent
